ISLET System Requirements

ISLET has a specific list of requirements that are needed for running the browser-based software. The following list describes those requirements.

What kind of computer do I need?

You can use a Microsoft Windows computer running, XP SP2, Vista, or 7, or you can use an Apple Mac running OSX 10.6.x. At a minimum, your computer should have a 2GHz or higher processor speed, or a Core Duo processor. You should have at least 1GByte of RAM in your computer and a high performance video card with at least 512MBytes of Video RAM. You will need a headset or earpiece with microphone as well. Keep in mind you will need to have administrator priviledges if you need to install Firefox, Java, etc.

How do I determine what type of computer I have?

If you are running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7: select Start->Control Panel, then click on "System". On Vista and 7 you will see a screen that will tell you the "Windows Edition", "Processor" (>2GHz OR Core Duo), and "Installed Memory" (>1GByte). On Windows XP, the information under "Computer" gives you the processor, speed and memory details. To determine your Video setup on Windows Vista or Windows 7: select Start->Control Panel, then clck on "Display". Click on "Change display settings" on the left hand side and on the window that follows, click on "Advanced settings" on the bottom right of the window. On the popup window that follows, what is of interest is "Chip Type" and "Dedicated Video Memory" (>512MB). If you are running Mac OSX: select the Apple icon in upper left hand corner, then choose "About This Mac". This will display the "Version" (>10.6.x), "Processor" (>2GHz OR Core Duo), and "Memory" (>1GByte).

Which browsers are supported?

Please use the latest Firefox browser (http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/products/download.html) and be sure that Java is installed (http://javatester.org/). If you find that you have an older version of Java, please remove all older installations and download and install the latest version. Also, please disable the Firefox popup blocker or any other popup blocker you may have installed. Finally, please ensure that the Unity Web Player is installed (http://unity3d.com/webplayer/)
